Hippy Magic - The Amber Teething Necklace

It all started like this - diaperswappers moms were getting amber teething necklaces and raving about the benefits.
First thought? You want me to let my child chew on amber? Seriously? You're kidding, right?

Nope, I had it wrong. They don't chew it :) They just wear it. The amber against the skin is supposed to have anti-inflammatory properties and ease some minor pain.
Right, because THAT sounds realistic.

Anyway, they're really cute necklaces. My friend bought them for everyone in her family. I started to covet the amber teething necklaces. But alas, NOT I will not spend $20 on pretties that might not work and that I don't believe WILL work.

Then, by the grace of my spending habit, I found it! A light colored amber necklace that would fit S with room to grow for $9ppd. I tried to resist the urge....but it was useless. Hippy magic got the best of me.

Anyway, I bought a lot that week (I am weak!!!) and totally forgot about it. When it came in the mail, I was caught off guard. Then I was excited :) I put it on S immediately - she looked so precious!

she promptly fell asleep. I should mention she's is cutting teeth right now - two are poking through the gums and she's been a mean little child.

So when she passed out within 3 minutes I thought, no..it can't be...hippy magic doesn't work!!! I did a lot of research on these puppies and I couldn't find any conclusive evidence that it DID in fact work.
I took it for a fluke

Until....

It happened again. I took the necklace off her for night because I just knew she'd hang herself somehow and I had the standard sleep problems that I'm used to with S - she does NOT like to sleep alone and will wake up every 30 minutes if there isn't a warm body with her.

I put it back on her today before we went to run errands and my crabby baby turned into an angel in an hour. She even went to sleep without screaming like she was being stabbed!

I think I'm a believer in hippy magic.

Now I want one with multi-colored amber on it, ya know...for research.

Punkin Doodle diaper is snappied with an infant size snappi and yes, my snappi skills need work :) I've been using snap fitteds and pockets for so long I almost lost my skills! My pinning looks MUCH better, but the little kid wiggles too much and the big one is terrified!

Testing Punkin Doodles Stage 1 OS fitted

I'm testing a fitted diaper for Punkin Doodle Diapers - its a one size OBV/OBF with a knit outer and for the maker, I've decided to take notes on it each time I use it/abuse it.

First use - this morning, unwashed/not prepped
went 3 hours with the 2 standard snap in soakers before there was any dampness on the outter knit. The fit was great, but there is a learning curve with the snappiable fitteds. The fit was trim and Shae was very comfortable. She does, however, refuse to poop in it. Immediately upon changing her diaper, she pooped. Not that I'm mad, I don't want my pretty diaper stained anyway :)

Currently washing it for the first time - 1 cycle on cold with tide, 1 cycle on cold without detergent, washing with my other dirty diapers.
So far, it has held her longer than her GM. The GM only lasts about 1.5hrs. . In the 3 hours (plus a few minutes) that Shae wore the PD diaper, she nursed 5-6 times - she's a cluster nurser in the mornings - and peed a lot. Mornings are her big heavy wetting time.

Will try it again after its been washed/dried once with just the one double layer soaker. I typically prep my new diapers with 4-5 washes on hot, this diaper is just going through my typical wash routine.

Use 2
Washed once and dried once - not a REAL prep (at least, not how I really prep my diapers)
Diaper shell + two layered velour top soaker
Diaper lasted 3.5 hours before it felt damp at ALL on the outside. Remember, this is ONE less soaker than my previous use and one wash in :) (the more bamboo is washed, the more absorbent it gets generally)
The snappi is grabbing better after the first wash, the print is still vibrant and has not faded at all :) The rise DID come unfolded during Shae's nap and the diaper had to be re-snappied but that could be easily remedied with pins. The GM is not my friend anymore. Even in its sherpa like state it can't preform like this diaper can. I think I still prefer snaps over snappiable but that might change when I try it out with pins :) I love the customized fit of a snappiable/pinable diaper, snaps are just easier for (especially for other people changing diapers). I don't think there would be a great fit if this diaper had snaps though - I think snaps would make it too much like every other diaper on the market that people get a good fit with 1/2 of the time.
Will wash again (with same wash routine as above) and probably test it out for nights tomorrow.

Use 3
After being washed twice, the print has still not faded, the inner is still silky soft and the workmanship is still fantastic.
I used it overnight on S with felted wool shorties as a cover. I've tried this in the past with a goodmama and umm...it wasn't pretty. My heavy wetter/ long time sleeper needs super diapers for night time.
The diaper went on, fully loaded with soakers - the velour topped 2 layer soaker, the bamboo fleece soaker, and the extra long fold over soaker, at 8pm. It came off at 10:30am. yes thats right, S slept THAT long in her diaper. Normally she wakes up around 6-7am, fully soaked and cranky (I would be too if I were her!). Today she woke up with a diaper that was wet on the outside - but the WHOLE diaper wasn't wet - the crotch area was wet, the front was damp, the back and around the waist were DRY!!! In the goodmama experiement the whole diaper was dripping after 10 hours, the wool was soaked through, my sheets were even wet! With happy hempys (stuffed with a thirsties hemp insert and a microfiber towel) the whole diaper was soaked, but the wool was just fine after 10 hours. Looks like my wetter has met her match!
With the diaper fully loaded, the bulk was about the same as the goodmama with the one 2-layer soaker. I'll get comparison pictures on here soon. I think the best part of this solution for overnights is that the wool itself was DRY! No wool stink. It doesn't need to be relanolized after one night or washed like it did with the GM!
The diaper is meant to fit up to 40lbs, there is a stage 2 diaper for 40-80lbs. My 17lbs 9month old fits it great AND my 47lb 5 year old does as well - he was a sport and let me snappi it on him for research :) and he let me take pictures! Best thing about this? If the diaper were pinned, I believe it would be an easy pull off solution for potty training bigger kids or night wetters.
In MY mind, that makes this one diaper that TRULY does last through potty training - it would work as a trainer just fine! It was VERY trim on my son with all the soakers in, with just the velour topped soaker it was as trim as underwear, with no soakers (idea for training pants during the day) it would be super soft, trim, and great for one pee.
